What are they and how can they help you create more satisfying experiences?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

They are methods that allow us to evaluate the user experience of our applications, websites, products or services. By testing usability with a representative group of people, testers determine\u00a0how easily and intuitively real users relate to our designs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Many different tests have been developed to test and validate hypotheses and design decisions. Therefore,\u00a0today we share with you some of the most outstanding ones<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Guerrilla<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A test that consists of visiting a public place - a coffee shop is the usual example - to ask people what they think about your product. Test participants are chosen at random. They are asked to perform a short usability test, often in exchange for a small gift.<\/p>\n

Guerrilla testing allows us\u00a0to collect opinions, impressions and emotions in a relatively simple and quick way<\/strong>. On the other hand, they are shallow tests and the data and conclusions obtained from them must be taken into account under that consideration.<\/p>\n

<\/h2>\n

UX Lab<\/strong><\/h2>\n

These tests are carried out in\u00a0adapted spaces<\/strong>\u00a0(laboratories or UX Lab) and are supervised by a moderator. The moderator is in charge of providing the participants with the tasks to be performed, answering their questions and comments in real time.<\/p>\n

It is an ideal test to\u00a0discover how users interact with the product and what difficulties they face<\/strong>, as well as to evaluate the user's emotions. They help us to investigate and understand the reasoning behind user behaviors.<\/p>\n

To make the most of this information, the moderator must be able to interpret the body language and facial expressions of the participants.\u00a0What they say about the test is not necessarily what they think<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The end-of-test interview is also a fundamental part of the process, both for the analysis and for the subsequent systematization.<\/p>\n

Of course, an adapted and controlled environment differs from the user's real environment. It is important to keep this in mind, as there is a risk of creating behaviors that are not 100% faithful to the user's reality.<\/p>\n

Telephone interviews<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One of the most commonly used UX tools to perform product iteration. Phone interviews are remote tests where a moderator instructs participants to respond or complete tasks from their device.<\/p>\n

Feedback\u00a0is collected and recorded to uncover user pain points, expectations and desires<\/strong>. A method that has the limitations of the chosen medium, but is an excellent option for sampling from different parts of the world.<\/p>\n

<\/h1>\n

Card sorting<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A test that allows us to\u00a0categorize the content and features of an interface<\/strong>. We place concepts (about content and features) on cards, which users then manipulate and sort into groups and categories. Once they have sorted them, a moderator asks them to explain the logic they used,\u00a0in order to understand the users' reasoning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0feedback<\/em>\u00a0received will be useful to\u00a0organize and prioritize the information for the benefit of usability<\/strong>. Card sorting helps us to organize the content and features of our\u00a0app<\/em>\u00a0or website.<\/p>\n

Session Recording<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is a method that allows us to record the actions performed by real users (anonymously) while interacting on a site with a particular product or service. A test that\u00a0enables the detection of patterns and insights of value to us<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Through the recording we can\u00a0analyze and understand what are the main problems faced by users<\/strong>\u00a0when interacting with our product, empathizing with them.<\/p>\n

But we not only visualize the difficulties and pain points to solve, we can also\u00a0detect<\/strong>\u00a0opportunities for improvement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Each test has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, so it is often not enough to choose just one. We can perfectly\u00a0well complement two or more techniques<\/strong>, or choose different methods for different stages of the process, and thus make the most of their benefits.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0flexibility\u00a0<\/strong>is a virtue. Therefore, it is important\u00a0to change direction if necessary<\/strong>, both to choose a different method and to modify the strategies, questions and tasks of a given test.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, let's remember the clarification made at the beginning of the article: the test we choose should always be aligned with\u00a0ur target audience, the resources we have available\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0the objectives of our research<\/strong>.
